Verified market points as of 4 August 2026

Confirmed facts

In Cameroon, the National Cocoa and Coffee Board published a cocoa CIF indicator of CFAF 3,083 per kilogram and an FOB indicator of CFAF 3,007 per kilogram for 31 July 2026. The same update showed a Douala buying-price range from exporters of CFAF 2,500 to CFAF 2,600 per kilogram.1

These figures provide a recent domestic benchmark for cocoa beans. They should not be treated as prices for cocoa butter, powder, liquor or cake. The commercial value of each derivative depends on product specifications, processing yields, fat content, energy costs, packaging, freight and the terms agreed between buyer and supplier.

The NCCB also states that the review of the 2025/2026 cocoa season is intended to prepare a more competitive, traceable and sustainable 2026/2027 season. Its website additionally highlights a stronger push for digital traceability across Cameroon's cocoa sector. For processors, this direction supports a closer connection between sourcing records, production files and the identification of finished or semi-finished derivative lots.1

Mixed signals from international markets

International monitoring currently points to several developments at the same time: easing cocoa prices in some reports, continuing cost pressure for chocolate manufacturers and renewed attention to supply-chain design. A Supply Chain Dive headline says chocolate manufacturers are rethinking their supply chains in response to cocoa price swings. For industrial buyers, this reinforces the need for clearer origin information, delivery planning and price-setting mechanisms.4

On the processing side, Valor International reports in its headline that Brazilian cocoa grinding has declined amid weaker demand. The available extract does not specify the comparison period, the scale of the decline or the respective impact on butter, powder, liquor and cake. Those details therefore require confirmation before the report can be used to assess the global derivative balance.5

West African weather conditions also remain relevant. Reuters reports that farmers in Côte d’Ivoire believe more sunshine is needed to support the main cocoa crop. This is a regional agronomic signal, not a quantified forecast for Cameroon or a direct measure of future availability for Cameroonian processors.6

Implications for cocoa processing

For a cocoa grinder, bean acquisition cost is only one part of the commercial equation. Industrial value must be assessed through the full material balance: liquor produced after roasting and grinding, the split between butter and press cake, the characteristics of powder made from the cake, process losses and energy consumption.

Four areas deserve particular attention in a volatile environment:

- secure suitable bean volumes without automatically translating FOB or CIF bean indicators into derivative prices;
- monitor demand for cocoa butter, powder, liquor and cake separately;
- define the technical requirements that must be confirmed in each offer, including fat content, possible alkalisation, particle size, packaging and microbiological parameters;
- connect processed lots with available origin, collection, intake, storage and production records.

The European Commission explains that its action on commodities associated with deforestation is intended, among other objectives, to reduce the land footprint of EU consumption, encourage deforestation-free supply chains and improve the availability and quality of information on forests and commodity chains. For SAMEN INDUSTRY, the appropriate operational approach is to strengthen documentary preparation and traceability readiness for bean sourcing and processed lots. Documentary readiness alone must not be presented as proof of regulatory compliance.7

Information to confirm with industrial buyers

Information to confirm

Before issuing a quotation or scheduling production, the parties should confirm the required product, volume, Incoterms, destination, delivery period, analytical specifications, packaging format and documentary requirements. Demand differences between cocoa butter and cocoa powder can affect pressing economics, so they should be assessed using actual purchase requirements rather than bean-market movements alone.

For SAMEN INDUSTRY partners, the immediate priority is therefore twofold: secure raw material suited to efficient grinding and structure derivative contracts around verifiable specifications, realistic lead times and a documentation package agreed with the buyer. Product availability, processing capacity, yields, prices and any requested certification status remain subject to direct confirmation.
